Rhode Island Police Chiefs Association Awards Scholarships

The Rhode Island Police Chiefs Association recently announced the recipients of their Scholarship Program for 2025.

"Behind every student is a network of support, and this program recognizes both the hard work and dedication of these young scholars and the families who have helped guide them," said Chief Thomas F. Oates III, Chief of Woonsocket Police and Immediate Past President of the Rhode Island Police Chiefs Association. "We are proud to stand behind them as they take this important next step and continue our commitment to honoring the families of law enforcement officers and investing in the future of our communities."

The 2025 recipients are:

  • Olivia Morrissette - Olivia is attending Southern Connecticut State University, studying Business and Finance. She is the daughter of Warren Police Officer Joel Morrisette.

  • Vanessa Javery - Vanessa is attending CCRI in the Sonography Program. She is the daughter of Johnston Lieutenant David Galligan.

  • Emily Ryan -. Emily is attending Colby College, studying Biology and Pre-Health. She is the daughter of Middletown Police Chief Jason Ryan.

  • Zachary Sweet - Zachary is attending Bryant University, studying Accounting and Finance. He is the son of Cumberland Captain Peter Sweet.

The Rhode Island Police Chiefs Association awards scholarships each year to recognize graduating high school seniors and support their pursuit of higher education. The scholarship program is funded in part by proceeds from the RIPCA Annual Gold Tournament and is open to the sons and daughters of active sworn law enforcement officers from agencies led by chiefs who are Active I members of the Association. Applicants must have been accepted to a post-secondary institution. Through this initiative, RIPCA continues its commitment to recognizing academic achievement and supporting the next generation of leaders in our communities.
