Police Chiefs Remind Rhode Islanders to Drive Responsibly

BAT Mobile to be deployed in Narragansett on Saturday

With events like the Kentucky Derby and Cinco de Mayo this weekend, local roadways are expected to see increased traffic and a higher risk for dangerous driving behaviors. Drivers are urged to obey speed limits, wear seat belts, stay focused behind the wheel, and make a plan for a sober ride if they plan to drink.

"With better weather and celebrations we're expecting a busy weekend and it’s more important than ever to make safe driving a priority," said Chief Thomas Oates, Chief of Woonsocket police and President of the Rhode Island Police Chiefs Association. "We’re asking everyone to slow down, buckle up, stay alert, and never drive impaired. These simple actions save lives—not just your own, but everyone sharing the road with you."

As part of this weekend’s DUI enforcement efforts, the BAT Mobile will be deployed at 360 Kingstown Road in Narragansett on Saturday, May 3, from 7 p.m. to 3 a.m. The Narragansett, North Kingstown, and South Kingstown Police Departments, along with the Rhode Island State Police, will be working together to identify and arrest impaired drivers.

RIPCA will be sharing safety reminders on its social media platforms throughout the weekend to encourage responsible driving and help keep Rhode Island’s roads safe for all.
