Red Flag Policy

Jamestown Police Chief and Treasurer of the Rhode Island Police Chiefs Association Edward Mello and RI Police Chief Association Executive Director Sid Wordell joined Dan Yorke to discuss their introduction of a “red flag” policy. The policy allows police to take action when they receive information about an individual that may be harmful to themselves or to others.

On February 21, 2018 The Rhode Island Police Chiefs’ Association, which represents the leaders of all law enforcement agencies in the State of Rhode Island unanimously voted on Tuesday to call upon the Rhode Island General Assembly to enact a law which will help law enforcement address issues as it relates to access to firearms by any person who displays a course of conduct which could place the public at risk, commonly referred to as “red flag” laws.
